BHS Horse Owners Certifcate
For those who want to enhance their knowledge of horses we are running a Horse Owners Certificate course (level one). This is a taught course and will be held of seven two hour sessions to be held at The Old White horse Pub on a Monday evening starting on the 25th October 2010. The instructor for this course will be Louise Fonnereau, BHSAI, INT.SM.
The course covers horse care and management and is aimed the first time horse owner or parents of horse owners. Level one is basic knowledge but there are four levels in total and if there is sufficient interest in this course then the club will consider running the higher levels. The seventh week will the exam which will be held on Monday 6th December 2010. The course is open to all and the exam is optional, so if you do just want to enhance your knowledge without completing the exam you can still do the course. Cost of course with exam £55 for members and £60 for non-members. If you do not wish to take the exam then members will pay £35 and non-members £40. STEVENAGE & DISTRICT RIDING CLUB PRESENTS A MINI CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING CLINIC AT CHESFIELD EQUESTRIAN CENTRE, GRAVELEY, HITCHIN, HERTS. MONDAY 14TH JUNE, FROM 5PM TIL LATE. £25.00 FOR MEMBERS, £30.00 FOR NON MEMBERS.
Most of us enjoy hacking and dressage but the thought of cross country jumping/competing may be a bit daunting. So, for old and young members alike, we are holding an XC training session at Chesfield
Equestrian Centre nr Graveley, in particular to boost the confidence for some of us that might be a bit nervous… as well as the young “gutsy” riders that regularly take part in XC!
The instructor, Dawn Freeman, has been teaching for 20 years and is a qualified BHS intermediate teacher, who will tailor the lesson to suit individual needs. You will be grouped according to ability, probably in groups of 4s, and the idea, apart from obviously improve your riding/jumping skills, is to ENJOY IT! Each session will last for approx. 45 minutes.
The course is in two meadows at Chesfield (“big and little bent meadows”) and most jumps are around 2’6”, with some at (but no higher than) 2’9”. The course is varied and includes the table, the coffin, the palisade, shark tooth, and other log jumps. For anybody that is nervous of jumping in “open spaces”, there is also the mini course in a small paddock, with jumps of around 1’6”/1’9”.

There will be a mixture of General Knowledge and Equestrian questions. Don't worry if you can't raise a full team as people can join in on the night. Cross Country Clinics - Hillhouse Cross Country, Carlton, Beds - We have six places reserved for members. Three places are available on 8th May 2010 and three places 31st May 2010. Show jumping clinics with Sue Allen at Chesfield:
12.06.10 - Improve your Balance and Confidence - This lesson will centre around the use of grids to encourage you and your horse to improve your confidence. Cost to members £15 and non-members £20.
17.07.10 - Improve your show jumping course technique - In this session you will ride a course at the height of your choice. Sue will then provide feedback on your performance and assistance in helping your improve. Cost to members £15 and non-members £20.
